Ziba and Ghazal - Iran
December 2010 |
Ziba and Ghazal fled Afghanistan 13 years ago. Now they live in Iran with twenty other family members. The male members of the family are constantly guarding their sisters honour. But the girls are testing their boundaries. Ghazal for example cut her hair short which is very unconventional for an Afghan girl and stays out as late as possible. Unlike her sister, Ziba decided to wear the Chador because it makes her father happy but she always makes sure that her own style and identity is visible.

The first Roller Derby`s
July 2010 |
With my projects I research how identities are constructed, and if and how people have control over it. Roller Derby`s are an interesting phenomenon to me because they make use of an alter ego on the track. They do this because in real life they are employees, wives and mothers. The use of a different identity allows them to be more aggressive on the track.

The pictures were published in NRC-next
