Biography
In 2003 Marjolein Busstra (1979) graduated from the School of Arts ‘Minerva’ with the series `It is your mind that creates this world` and exhibited her photographs in various Dutch galleries. In addition to this, she has been working as a photographer and published her work in Vice, ELLE and NRC-next.In 2005 she followed her passion for documentary film and relocated to the University of Amsterdam for a master degree in Film Studies. In 2006 she made the documentary film Jatorria about young Basque nationalists and then graduated in 2007 with a thesis on Human Rights Documentary films.
After she received her master’s degree she worked in the department of programming at the `International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam`. In July 2007 she went to Palestine where she gave a workshop documentary filmmaking to Dutch and Palestinian youth. In 2008 she programmed student films at the `Banja Luka Film Festival` in Bosnia- Hercegovina while working on a series of photos.
In 2009 she started a 2 year Master program on documentary photography at Sint Joost art academy in Breda where she combines journalist strategies with art photography. In 2011 she presents her work in several exhibitions.
