Alter Ego`s

In Alter Ego’s I work with the notion of interchangeability of lives. I make and collect portraits of women with lives I feel could have been mine, if not for a twist of fate...Each woman represents a social group, for example immigrants and animal rights activists. By putting myself literally among these women I want to learn more about their identity and my own. But how are these women represented in the media? In my exploration I attempt to look beyond the media construct in order to try and find the ‘true’ identity of these individuals. Can I still identify with them? Alter Ego`s is a documentary film of 24:42 min. I portrait four women; Latife Simsek, Fleur Agema (PVV), Sharon Nunez and Tanja Nijmeijer. Here you can see a preview, please contact me if you want to see the whole documentary. |

In my current work I want to expose what it means if you were part of an exodus as a child and you are referred to as Peter Pan the rest of your life. Due to the earthquake in Haiti thousands of Haitian children are being adopted worldwide. Already, people are talking about ‘Operation Pierre Pan.’ This is in reference to ‘Operation Peter Pan;’ an event during the sixties, where more then 14.000 children were evacuated via an air bridge to the United States without their parents. Since the financial market is not stable, I figured that some people will start saving their money at their homes again, instead of putting it on a bank account. I wanted to research this phenomen and captured it where possible in pictures. I wanted to make money visible again instead of digital. This project was part of a group exhibition about the Crisis in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam. July 2011 - October 2011 |
